elektroliza is a series of club events formed by a group of dedicated electronic music enthusiasts in 2006. it is hosted by ljubljana s channel zero, a legendary club that is part of the autonomous social centre metelkova which used to be the slovenian headquarters of the yugoslav national army.

filling a void in slovenia s electronic dance scene, the night was a hit from the start and quickly grew into a diverse and successful series focusing on new and exciting electro, acid and dark techno.

elektroliza hosted many memorable dj and live acts by performers/producers/pioneers coming out of international music incubators in gothenburg, the hague, berlin and as far as detroit. even more importantly, it brought together producers and crews from the former yugoslav republics of slovenia, croatia, serbia and macedonia. inside the former yugoslavian military barracks djs and producers from skopje to ljubljana began bonding again through music, forming new friendships, starting new collaborations and dancing the night away... in -electro city ljubljana-.

la awanto 3 and meditation tunnel appear on the latest blitz, dj tennis’ ongoing, limited, vinyl-only series. these colourful records sometimes pop-up around life and death showcases, often featuring non-standard cuts + off-kilter attitudes. dekmantel affiliate, awanto 3 offers-up an infectious after-party gem, with “the phone we call it.” slow-burning cosmic keyboards pair with elements of detroit techno and a subtle wink to rdj’s masterstroke, xtal. the flip contains a killer from meditation tunnel, the newly-birthed dance project from the rapture’s luke jenner. la la la is a blitz future-classic. syncopated bass guitar, crusty synthetic strings and the purest of vocal performances - blitz #2 is one to remember.

still hope is their second single and the follow up to motorway jam (their double a side with palms trax from late last year) which sees them collaborate with anthony anaxagorou, a british born cypriot award winning poet and essayist, whose poetry and fiction have appeared on bbc newsnight, bbc4, itv and vice. hearing his lyrics via their good friend simbad, secretsundaze connected with anthony and still hope is the fruit of their labour. the original is a potent and political spoken word piece delivered over a rolling house groove. definitely one for the deeper moments with its late night heady feel and full vocal not letting up. the poems in the heart floor version strips the vocal back and adds dramatic strings for a more direct dance floor approach. ex slum village detroit producer waajeed released a couple of killer eps in 2017 on his own dirt tech reck imprint so we had to get him aboard for the remix. his detroit hardcore dub does what is says on the tin and is a peak time slammer while his searching dub goes down a jazzier, spacey route with live sounding drums and dreamy pads.

obsessed with the cosmos, asteroids and relativity, panstarrs of which we know little, except that he is not a total stranger to the electronic scene, nor to technorama, delivers here a first 5 tracks of 100% electro rooted detroit influenced music. influences found in the works of other artists such as drexciya (in all their projects), klaus schultz, tangerine dream, model 500, ectomorph and many others ... with his head in the clouds (the oort one) but with his feet firmly on the ground, panstarrs lives and works on his musical projects from a little-known mountain, somewhere in france, and whose themes are almost always connected to his obsessions. ice and dust is the first opus of this artist who is already working on a first album. a first ep coming out of the depths of space and now is in its own orbit.

“lost tracks vol. 2” contains 4 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999. the duo fused 80’s european new wave/italo disco with 90’s detroit electro acts like le car and dopplereffekt. by utilizing verse-chorus structures, they playfully shook up the loop based hard techno and electro that was popular at the time. their studio set up at the time was a korg ms-20, roland sh-101, tr-606, tr-808, siel dk80, and boss dr-660 drum machine. the songs are direct, spontaneous, seemingly improvised in places. miss kittin sings about falling in love in the new millennium, snuff movies and controlling the unknown trip to death, all in her cheekily derisive french accent. all songs have been transferred from the original dat tapes by the band and remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios. the vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket featuring a black and white photo of the duo taken in 1996. each lp includes a postcard with liner notes from miss kittin and the hacker designed by eloise leigh. as miss kittin says of these demos, “we were naive, innocent, adventurous and we didn’t expect anything in return”

erotek is back with his first ep since 2004 with a hybrid ghetto electro ep. “double time”, co produced with the anxious beat director, and “this i know” have been produced in recent times whereas the other 2 tracks “4mo” and “twisted truths” are archival projects from the end of the 90s. varying from 4/4 beats to broken patterns and electroid rhythms, this ep presents different facets of one of the classic detroit ghettotek producers.

delsins reissue arm once again looks to the revered back catalogue of lost trax for a second 12 that picks out the best of the anonymous collectives work. the ep features five cuts taken from two highly sought after eps released on tabernacle records in 2011 and 2012. the eye opens things up with punchy drum programming and the sort of sci-fi effects and synths that immediately take you to a future intergalactic world. its a weighty but emotional opener, while pulp is more twisted and urgent, with warped synth sounds and busy, bristling drums and perc all building pressure throughout. the forest resets the mood with mystic synths and mysterious atmospheres that mix ambient beauty with suggestive skeletal beats. b01 then canes through the cosmos on a detroit electro tip with slithers of synth, swollen pads and crisp hits and dominion rounds things out in hurried fashion. the restless electro drums pound away as prickly snares and cymbals, blurts of machine noise and sweeping pads all wrestle for attention and keep you on your toes. this is high octane electro and techno designed with metallic precision but oozing plenty of human feelings.

in 2013 casey tucker was thrust into the limelight after 15 years in the shadows. never truly getting the recognition for is detroit influenced and post rave sound in the 90s, for those that knoe reissued some of caseys classic material and unearthed some gems on dat in 2013. fast forward to the current day and a recent treasure trove was uncovered and some fresh dats untouched since the late 90s were discovered! ben promptly bought a dat player on ebay and shipped it to casey s home for the un-dusting to commence. fttk has worked with casey to present another round of authentic material for this final installment (maybe) of his classic productions

when it comes to soulful house, detroit native alton miller is about as ingrained as it gets. peacefrog, planet e, moods & grooves, mahogani and sound signature have all endorsed his talents and with an album looming later in the year, waella s choice sow the seeds with all things good. club music for the sensitive souls, with some arresting spoken word poetry and even a broken beat deviation. all things good is the fourth release from london label waella s choice, following hanna, ranger and the london on key compilation.

once more envisioned and engineered in his native city of detroit, the record finds mgun in more auspicious and domestic circumstances. now firmly a father and a homeowner, axiom allows gonzales to flex his party muscle, while further pushing the elastic boundaries of his notoriously unpredictable and brilliantly raw production style. across twelve tracks, listeners are offered an unpredictable trip into the restlessly experimental snatches of studio time gonzales was afforded away from his then day job at the legendary people s records store. it s there that gonzales absorbed endless releases and rediscoveries passing through the stock, trading the occasional tip with some of detroit s best known producers.

this eight-track double vinyl album collects the strongest disco mixes to appear on the label. five are by moulton and others are by issy sanchez and hippie torales. generally only originally available as promo 12”s or within commercially released albums, they are fine demonstrations of the skills of the mixers as well as the talents of the artists. the music stretches from the extended soul groove of the detroit emeralds’ “feel the need”, to the proto electro sounds behind the clark sisters’ “you brought the sunshine”, and includes cj & co’s “devil s gun” - the first record to be played at the iconic studio 54 - as well as obscurities by eramus hall and the crowd pleasers.

mike huckaby, bergqvist, dj sports, raam and lns remix ‘deep soundscapes’, takecha’s album recently released on sweden’s love potion. released in march, the album incorporates takeshi fukushima’s work between 1990 to 2013 and affirms why the producer is such a respected figure within japan’s electronic music scene. now his compositions have been remixed by some of house music’s best, featuring renditions from detroit’s mike huckaby, aniara’s henrik bergqvist, the elusive raam, firecracker and regelbau’s dj sports, as well as wania and freakout cult’s lns. mike huckaby inaugurates the release with his sultry take on ‘low sentiment’, blending deep synths with murmuring vocals to forge a proper deep house cut. bergqvist then remixes ‘rhodes deep’ creating a bouncy minimal cut incorporating the original’s scintillating melody alongside meandering percussion and twisted effects, making way into dj sports’ remix of ‘gradual atmosphere’ with its intricate breakbeat drums and dreamlike atmospherics. raam then reinvents ‘calm imagination’ taking it into subterranean territories complete with infectious keys, until lns ties it all together with her mesmerising beatless reimagining of ‘factory 141’.

esteban adame cut his teeth djing at the ditch parties and house parties of east la in the 90s. he then moved to detroit to apprentice with mad mike banks, performing as part of los hermanos and galaxy to galaxy. more than twenty years on, he still lives and breathes music. this is his debut record for mister saturday night records, raw and joyful.

orlando voorn is back on tarvisium electronique with secret society, a mysterious, obscure and psychedelic ep exuding the essence of detroit techno. side a of the vinyl features the title track in which voorn melts the analogic rhythm with a spectral melodic pattern. side b features two tracks, playing for keeps, a techno bolt of lightning bound straight for the dancefloor and rush, a track characterized by a mechanical, analogic and highly experimental sound. to conclude the ep the label manager, steve lorenz, has composed a remix of secret society with an avant-garde fusion of minimal, acid and detroit techno.

long serving irish producer derek carr continues to enjoy a resurgent career following his appearances on for those that knoe, now stepping up to love notes for some of his most effervescent house jams to date. -sidewinder- is a sprightly, detroit indebted house workout pitched at peak time, while -stepping out- trips into classically informed techno for the back room crowd. -search for intelligence- is a great example of how to execute sweet natured electro, and -indigo- ditches the kicks to twirl into more of that motor city flavoured machine soul magic for the mind.

on this joint ep with reggie dokes, gari explores the world of deepness without hesitation. he takes us on an intergalactic mind trip, while keeping it true to the dancefloor. on the a side is reggie dokes, who gives us deep house, then without shame moves us into that detroit style of techno, cultivated by the motor city. mr. dokes likes to walk in both worlds of house and techno, and not confine himself to one particular genre. this ep is the perfect marriage of two creative producers, who bring excitement and inspiration to the dancefloor.

for alan oldham, artistic expression is a way of life, taking multiple forms and medi-ums throughout his lifetime. before he was ever known as dj t-1000, he was a published car-toon artist and radio dj in detroit writing press releases for underground resistance to get by. one day, underground resistance was in need of a last minute dj for their tour in aus-tralia, and a door flew open for alan oldham. with passport in hand he departed on his jour-ney as a dj, which little did he know would eventually span continents. influenced by every-thing around him, his work has dynamically changed and evolved along with his life. currently as an international dj living in berlin, his latest creation is the acidspace ep, released by elypsia records under the detroitrocketscience name. the traveler himself takes us on an intergalactic adventure, beginning with acidspace (8:48). with a steady beat and a unique blend of serene space sounds, this jam excites the imagination for the journey to come. it is followed by rocket to berlin (7:20), a subtle and intricate mix that entices one to enter the unknown. vesta system (6:22) finishes the ep off on a note that leaves lis-teners grooving and enjoying the ride. creativity and sweet sounds are what its all about for alan oldham. with his recent musical shift to mellower, sci-fi inspired jams, he continues to let listeners see for themselves.
